After spending New Year’s Eve with Adrian and his family, he managed to convince me to stay over so I wouldn’t have to drive home late. And since Adrian and I finally had a day off together for New Year’s, I decided it would be a good time to finally see the Sundial Bridge in Redding. (Cathy and I had been wanting to see it in person for a while!) We drove by my house to pick up Cathy and we headed on the nearly 3 hour drive to Redding. It was one my longest drives ever, but we finally made it there around late afternoon!
The bridge wasn’t as wow-ing in person honestly, but it looks so good in photos! We spent a while just snapping some shots.
We wanted to go hiking, but didn’t really know where to go. (I only found out about trails to go on later on. *snaps*) We ended up following a paved trail that circled around the area. It would have been perfect for skating since the land was all flat. A lot of families were there walking, biking, or skating around.
Cathy and I wanted to see the bridge lit up, so we stuck around for it to get dark. The trip to the bridge is definitely not an all day thing, but since we drove so far to see it, we just stayed. We ended up taking a nap in the car while we waited, which was much needed since I was so tired from the drive!
And we waited some more for until it got darker out….
On our way back home, we stopped by Rolling Hills Casino, which was one of two casinos we had seen on the way there. The place smelled strongly of cigarettes. While Adrian went to try his luck out at the blackjack table, Cathy and I ate dinner at their buffet. Once Adrian was satisfied with his winnings, we headed finally headed home for the night.
Despite some slight disappointment, the day was still well spent. It was a great to start the new year! 🙂
