Not going to lie… I felt a lot of stress for weeks leading up to the Vegas trip. The stress mainly came from talking to other people about Vegas and how they seemed to have this idea of how dressed up girls should be while they’re there. I don’t really fit into that mold, so I felt really pressured to “step up my game”. It was my first trip to Vegas without my parents and I already knew it would be different. But eventually, those frustrations faded as the trip finally happened….
Adrian and I had talked about getting a GoPro and he bought one the day before our trip. It turned out to be a pretty awesome addition as we learned to use it along the way!
Our flight was originally scheduled for 0740PM, but it got delayed for more than hour. We ended up not departing from Oakland until nearly 0930pM. Sadly, the Vegas flight scheduled an hour after ours got to leave before us. Say what?!
But at least we got to see all the pretty lights!
So we got to Vegas around 1100PM and the other Vegas flight had arrived just before us. The line for the taxi was extremely long, but it moved along surprisingly speedy. It was my first time catching a cab and I liked the system in Vegas. There are “stations” (mostly hotels) that taxis know to swing by and they pick up customers in an orderly fashion. No need to flag down anyone!
After our awkward ride to our hotel (the cabbie was on his phone the whole time), we went to get our room at Paris. Unfortunately, we were stuck in a smoking room for the night. We had some guy come and spray air freshener in our room then later got some “o-zone” machine that helped us breathe a little better. Luckily, it was just for that night.
After dropping off our bags, we headed out to explore Vegas the first night. We decided to follow our GPS to Tuscany for some $5.99 steak and eggs from Marilyn’s Cafe. The walk there felt pretty shady (we strayed quite a bit from The Strip), but the walk back did not seem as bad. The steak tasted delicious at 0100AM!
After our super late dinner, we walked around to check out the night views.
Before finally calling it a night, we decided to see if Sugar Factory was open. At 0300AM, it was! So we went ahead and tried a White Gummy goblet to split amongst the 5 of us. I didn’t taste much alcohol (thank goodness!) and enjoyed eating the gummy worms at the end.
The next morning, we got a room switch to the 10th floor where we got a non-smoking room. We had a super gorgeous view!
For brunch, we ate at Gordon Ramsay BurGR. I think reviews for the place hyped it up too much for me and I was sadly not blown away by the Chanterelle burger I had ordered. At least I can say I tried it though.
At the end, we were served an iPod Touch with our bill that asked for feedback on our experience. Nice use of technology!
Then, it was Fat Tuesday time. Adrian, Cathy, and I shared a Yard Dog. It was actually quite refreshing on such a hot day. We chose the peach bellini flavor and I wasn’t able to taste the alcohol in that either. Score!
We then proceeded to explore The Strip where we walked into the World of Coca-Cola. Taking photos with the polar bear mascot turned out to be quite memorable. The polar bear was very playful!
We even have a “bear cam.”
We then checked out M&M’s World for some photo ops.
Afterwards, we made the hot trek back to our hotel for “pool time” that Kristi scheduled in. I’m glad we got to relax and utilize our hotel’s pool.
And my favorite bit during our visit to the pool was this little clip that Adrian created:
Everything was pretty good except Tao was way too crowded for my liking. I didn’t have much fun after about 10 minutes of being there. Crowded dance floors where I can barely move around is not the business! Adrian and I left Tao a little earlier than Amanda, Cathy, and Kristi to check out the casino. I tried my luck at slots and won $10 from $1. Yay!
The last morning, we woke up to check-out of our hotel. We decided to go to Encore early since we were going to Encore Beach Club at 1230PM. We wanted to grab a quick bite to eat, so we went to Encore Lobby Bar where we weren’t able to sit down since they had a “proper attire” dress code. Adrian was wearing a tank, which was deemed improper, so we were only allowed to order food to-go. Our quick bite to eat turned out to be $4.50 cheese danishes. Gah!
But, our main event to attend for the day was the pool party at Encore Beach Club and that turned out to be pretty awesome. Once the finals for the World Cup were over and Zedd took the stage, the party livened up a lot.
Overall, I did end up having fun despite all the tiredness and the not-so-fun nightclubbing experience at Tao. I had only wanted to go to Vegas if I wasn’t the one planning and Kristi did a good job structuring everything as I later realized we didn’t have time to explore a good majority of The Strip. She also took care of dealing with the hotel and the club promoters too, which I am thankful for. Being the one who usually plans, it was nice to feel relaxed for a change. Needless to say, I did in fact go to work the next day feeling like life was dull without all the flashy lights and energy of Vegas.
Thank you, Adrian, for capturing a good chunk of our trip on the GoPro. 🙂
Now… onwards to more travel adventures!
