040816-040916 Mini Getaway

A little over a month after K and I had started dating, we talked about traveling. Somehow that ended up with me offering up my Hyatt reward to see if he wanted to go travel somewhere with me. As much as I love sharing new experiences, it was a scary gamble for me as I recalled upon my past experiences. But, three months later… we are still together. Whoa! 😛

Our mini getaway location of choice was Monterey due to distance and the availability of beaches. Rain was in the forecast, but the weather ended up being perfect during our stay.

We arrived Friday evening and had dinner at Gusto Handcrafted Pasta and Pizza. We picked up snacks from a nearby Target and spent the rest of the night in our room.

The next morning, we woke up and ate leftover pizza for breakfast while watching The Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift. It was kind of perfect. 🙂

Once we finally got ready, we headed over to Monterey Bay Aquarium. K booked us a behind-the-scenes tour that I never knew existed. The tour was super informative and K got to geek out the entire time. We ended up spending about 4 hours going through the exhibits.

Here’s a collection of photos from both our perspectives:

Midway through our visit, we took advantage of the in and out privilege and left the aquarium to find lunch. When checking on my car, we found out the car battery had died, but decided to worry about it later. For lunch, we went to eat at Vivolo’s Chowder House.

When we finally left the aquarium, K called AAA to help jump start my car. I was really thankful K was there with me since I probably would have freaked out a lot more if I was alone.

Since we couldn’t turn the car off for at least 30 minutes, we decided to do the 17-Mile Drive. It turned out to be perfect since we got to hit up Spanish Bay and see the Lone Cypress at sunset. 🙂

Before leaving Monterey, we went to grab dinner in Carmel. Two restaurants we called were booked for the evening, so we ended up eating at Flanagan’s Pub for a nice and quiet meal.

I am really glad we got to do this mini getaway together. ❤
